What Is Sports Medicine?
If your child is injured while exercising, participating in a sport, or doing any type of physical activity, you may be advised to see a sports medicine healthcare provider for treatment.
Sports medicine specialists treat a wide range of physical conditions, including acute traumas such as fractures, sprains, strains, and dislocations. They also treat chronic overuse injuries, including tendonitis, degenerative diseases, and overtraining syndrome.
Sports medicine combines general medical education with the specific principles of sports science, exercise physiology, orthopedics, biomechanics, sports nutrition, and sports psychology. A sports medicine team may involve medical and non-medical specialists, including physicians, surgeons, athletic trainers, sports psychologists, physical therapists, nutritionists, coaches, and personal trainers.
Causes of in-toeing
The following conditions are inherent in nature that may occur individually or in association with other orthopedic conditions.
Due to genetic involvement, such conditions cannot be prevented, only treated. The most common conditions responsible for in-toeing are:
Metatarsus Adductus is termed to feet that are observed to be curved in an infant from birth due to lack of space in the uterus which causes the unborn’s legs and feet to remain curled in an awkward direction.
Tibial Torsion is caused in babies while leading uterine life in a curled up state which causes a congenital twist in the tibia that corrects itself during the baby’s first year of life, but in some stubborn cases, the twist fails to completely untwist even at the age of ten.
Excess Femoral Anteversion is characterized by an inward twist in the upper thigh bone. It is more of a common occurrence in girls than boys and normally vanishes away by the age of eight to ten, but the more resilient cases have to be checked by an expert surgeon for corrective surgery and complete treatment.
